Metallorganic species used as gasoline additives decompose undercombustion conditions. Conductive metal deposits can form on some surfacesunder some conditions. Little is known about the mechanism of metal depositformation and as a step toward preventing unwanted deposits a solid theoreticaland experimental foundation must be laid. Possible approaches might include,but are not limited to:

  • Instrumented internal combustion engines
  • Time off light reaction studies – Integrated GC/MS or MS/MS capabilities
  • Novel in-situ instrumental techniques
  • Computational Fluid Dynamic Simulations

TechnicalSpecifications / Specific technical requirements of the request

The desired partner will:

  • Have a prior background in the thermal and oxidative decomposition of metallorganic compounds
  • Possess appropriate spectroscopic and other analytical capabilities to detect and quantify gas-phase species
  • Present astrong record of elaborating gas-phase reaction mechanisms
  • Optionally have the ability to perform Computational Fluid Dynamics as needed to apply or test experimental findings
